How To Make Progress As A New Blogger

When you are just getting started creating your online platform, it is essential to commit a certain amount of time every week to spend working on it. That is how you will make progress as a new blogger. So, if you haven’t decided on how many hours you will put in every week, you need to start there.

Commit to a specific blogging schedule

Be realistic. I rather you commit to spending five hours a week on growing your platform than just plan on blogging “when you have free time.” Because we all know how that works. You never have free time. Your time is precious and limited, but if you want to see progress as a blogger, you also need to make blogging a priority. And the more time you put into it, if spent wisely, the more you can get done.
I set myself for success. If you don’t set up a specific time to blog, or just leave it for “when you have time,” everything else will take priority over your blog.

What will you give up for blogging?

Committing to a specific time to work on your platform every week requires sacrifice and discipline. Know that something else will have to give. You will have to trade in your family time, sleep, fun, etc., for the opportunity of growing this dream of yours. I decided to give up time sleeping. Also, I gave up on all my other hobbies to spend more time developing my online platform. And yes, I have also traded a lot of family time to work on my blog.
What you should always keep in mind is that you are not running a race against anybody else. So, do not compare yourself to me, your friends, or other bloggers. You run your own race, just make sure you are setting yourself up for success. Having said that, this is what I got accomplished on Week #2 of creating DIY Online Content.

Accomplishments:

  • Shot three videos
  • Edited two videos
  • Published two blog posts with video
  • Added and populated boards on Pinterest
  • Very active on Instagram
  • Uploaded video as a native post to LinkedIn

Website Traffic Report

According to Google Analytics, a session is the period time a user is actively engaged with your website. Page-views is the total number of pages viewed. Repeated views of a single page are counted.
That is expected when you are just getting started. Your organic traffic will start flowing to your site after a few months of creating constant and high-quality content. You need to be in this race for the long term!

I hope that these progress reports can help you bring perspective to your journey, wherever you are. Also, that they motivate you and shed some light at what happens behind the scenes when you are starting and growing from scratch a blog or online platform.
As always, if you have any questions, leave them below in the comments section. And if you have been wanting to start a blog but haven’t taken action yet.
Also, I want to take this opportunity to introduce you to Darren Rowse, creator of ProBlogger. Both his podcast and blog have been very useful to me in learning my online platform and improving as a blogger. They asked their community if they felt they were making progress with their blogging. Read to find out what they had to say.
