How Often Should I Post On My Blog, YouTube, Or Podcast?
If you are new to blogging or are trying to grow your audience, you are probably wondering, how often should I post on my blog? The answer varies depending on where your platform is at. The following suggestions will help you grow at any stage.
How Often Should You Post When You Are Getting Started
When you are just getting started blogging, you need to post as often as possible. The frequency will depend on two factors:
- Your skill level, and
- The type of content that you are creating.
If you’re just learning how to blog, maybe posting once a week will be more than enough. The more content you create, the faster and easier it will get. Perhaps, a few months down the road, you will be able to publish two posts per week.
But your frequency will also be determined by the kind of content that you are creating. If you’re only posting articles with stock pictures, your production time will be lower than if you were also creating videos or podcasts.
For instance, let’s suppose that you are a food blogger. You have to make the food, take videos or pictures to document the recipe process, and then create your blog post. Your production time is going to be much higher than it would be for somebody who’s just posting articles with images. So keep in mind your content type and production time to set realistic goals for your platform.
A Word of Caution…
Don’t compare your progress to others. In blogging, something that you should keep in mind is that you are not competing against other people.
DO NOT compare your blog progress to anybody else’s, especially people who are posting more frequently than you are. You don’t know their situation. Maybe they are more experienced than you. Perhaps they have grown kids and have more free time to blog. It could also be that they have a team or outsource the work. Everybody’s situation is different.
DO look at other people’s work for inspiration. But NEVER compare your journey to theirs. Blogging and building a platform is very personal. Results depend on many different factors, but competition shouldn’t be one of your concerns. Stay focused on building up your blog and set realistic goals for yourself.

Producing audiovisual content is a skill that I have already mastered. My ability to create blog posts with video several times per week is much higher than that of somebody who has never put a video together. Do you see my point? Don’t try to be like somebody else, just be you.

The Benefits Of Publishing Constantly On Your Blog
Now you know that I recommend posting as much as you can when you are just getting started blogging. Whether that is once a day, once per week, or even once per month. Pick the frequency that is right for your skill level, but once you decide you need to commit.
You should always be creating new content for your blog. Don’t think of it as a place where you can publish ten posts and be done. That’s not how this works.
Let me share with you these three good reasons for posting regularly.
You Should Post Regularly To…
1. Add Value to Your Audience and Your Platform.
The more articles, videos, podcasts, etc., that you offer to answer people’s questions, the more valuable your platform becomes to your ideal clients. High-quality content on your site will help you turn cold traffic into warm leads, and hopefully, to also convert them into clients.
2. Keep Your Audience Interested.
Posting frequently will incentivize your audience to stay engaged. If your readers or viewers know that you’re publishing content several times a week, they will be more likely to come back. But if you only post once a month, you are at risk of being forgotten.
In the busy world of online marketing, the products, services, or brands that stay top of mind, are the ones that win.
3. Improve Your Site’s Reputation.
The third big reason to publish regularly is to send proper signals to search engines. Especially in the beginning stages of your website or blog, search engines will not consider you a reputable site. You need to prove to Google and Yahoo that you mean business.
By continually updating your website with high-quality content, the algorithms will be more likely to show your posts in search results. This will also help your organic traffic to grow, and that is how your platform will slowly but surely gain an audience.
Growing an Online Platform

I have to be very clear about this. Building a platform takes a LONG time. And to be very honest, until today, I have never had a post gone viral. I have had a few that went “micro viral” and gained up to 10,000 views in two days. But that is nothing compared to viral posts that get hundreds of thousands or millions of visits in a couple of days.
Regardless of going viral or not, my platforms continue to grow because I am creating content at least every single week. Also, I am not only creating content continuously but also publishing to multiple platforms.
When you create content in multiple types of formats, you allow more people to find you. Some people really like to get their answers on video. Others don’t like watching videos and prefer to read. And there are also people like me, who don’t have time to read all they want but can listen to podcasts all day long.
When you offer answers to people’s questions in a variety of formats, you will get better results.
Have Been Blogging For a Long Time?
If you have been continuously publishing on your platform for two to three years, then you can reduce your posting frequency. Once per week would be OK. That is because, at this stage of the game, your blog or platform has become a library of resources. Your site has earned the trust of search engines too. You can keep promoting your blog posts on social media and still get a decent amount of organic traffic.
But don’t forget that we are talking about the business of content creation. So if that’s what you love to do, keep posting as often as you can. You will be serving your audience, and also yourself. Because as content creators, there is nothing more gratifying than coming up with an idea, and with your own skills and imagination making it happen for other people to enjoy.
In Conclusion
When you are just getting started, you should post on your blog as often as possible. Make sure you are not comparing yourself to other bloggers or publishers. Set realistic goals according to the time you have to invest in your platform and your skill level producing content.
Remember that the more frequent you publish, the faster you will build an audience. Also, the higher your probabilities are of generating organic traffic to your blog, YouTube channel, or podcast.
But remember, this is only my opinion. It is also a good idea to get perspective from other bloggers. Neil Patel has a great post on 5 Simple Steps That’ll Help You Determine How Often You Need to Blog. He offers great insight into how frequently huge online magazines like The Huffington Post and Forbes publish. I know they have a whole organization working in creating content, but it is never a bad idea to understand how the big dogs operate.
